Two and a half times more energy than in the same quarter last year, ensuring security of supply
In the first quarter, Deutsche Energy Terminal GmbH (DET) fed over 25 terawatt-hours (TWh) of natural gas into the German grid. This is an increase of two and a half times compared to the previous year's figure (10 TWh; Q1 2025). In mathematical terms, the 25 TWh correspond to around 10% of Germany’s total natural gas storage capacity.
Managing Director Dr. Peter Röttgen says, “Thanks to the construction and reliable operation of our terminals, DET can now regularly feed up to 350 gigawatt-hours of energy daily into the German gas grid. This significantly contributes to security of supply for private households and the economy, which is especially important in these times of geopolitical tension. I am particularly grateful for the excellent cooperation with our partners and customers!”
After just three years of operation, DET now employs specialists from over 18 countries at its sites in Brunsbüttel, Stade and Wilhelmshaven, as well as at its headquarters in Düsseldorf. Economically, the federal government’s subsidiary is also continuing to grow: The annual volume fed into the grid in 2025 was 79 TWh, significantly higher than the figures for the two previous years (59 TWh each). In May 2025, the state-owned operator connected its third floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) to the grid at the Wilhelmshaven 2 terminal. This year's measures to fulfil the mandate of the LNG Acceleration Act passed by the federal government in 2022 include the Stade FSRU project and the construction of a new jetty at the Brunsbüttel Elbe port, which will strengthen the Federal Republic’s security of supply through the construction, operation, and marketing of LNG terminals.
