In the second half of 2024, the "Excelerate Excelsior" will become DET's second LNG terminal in Wilhelmshaven to commence operation. It is the only one of the four DET terminals to be designed as an island jetty. It is located approximately 1.5 kilometres offshore, just 2 kilometres south of the already operational Wilhelmshaven 1 terminal.
The "Excelerate Excelsior" is 277 metres long and has a storage capacity of 138,000 cubic meters. Its regasification capacity is up to 500 MMSCFD. The vessel, built in 2005 by shipping company Excelerate Energy, was taken under a five-year charter by DET. It will dock at an island jetty, currently being built approximately 1.5 kilometres from the shore and accessible regardless of the tide. The terminal will be connected to the grid at the injection point of the first Wilhelmshaven terminal. The annual grid injection capacity is expected to be up to 3.9 billion m3. Further data on the terminal and grid injection can be viewed on the ALSI platform after commissioning.
DET will operate the "Excelerate Excelsior" LNG terminal in Wilhelmshaven. KN Energies has been awarded a contract for the technical operation and maintenance of the facilities after commissioning. KN Energies will also be responsible for commercial management, including the coordination of LNG carriers. The shipping company Excelerate Energy performs the regasification onboard the Excelerate Excelsior.
