GOOD NEIGHBOURS

DET operates three LNG terminals in Brunsbüttel and Wilhelmshaven and the terminal project Stade. At all our sites, it is important to us to maintain contact with local residents and businesses and to be a good neighbour.

Brunsbüttel

For more than 100 years, Brunsbüttel has been a meeting point for the maritime world at the connection of the Kiel Canal to the estuary of the Elbe. It is also a passageway for shipping to the Port of Hamburg. Here, the established industrial port, Brunsbüttel Ports, offers a wide range of maritime services.

Stade

Stade is an old Hanseatic city characterised by shipping, trade and industry. The installation of a floating LNG terminal will mark a new chapter in the city's long history as an important seaport.

Wilhelmshaven

The DET site in Wilhelmshaven has successfully initiated the transition to a flexible and secure gas supply for Germany through LNG. The "Höegh Esperanza" terminal (Wilhelmshaven 1) was commissioned in record time in December 2022. In May 2025, our Wilhelmshaven terminal FSRU "Excelsior" has been connected to the german gas grid. With its two terminals, Wilhelmshaven contributes significantly to the energy security of Germany and Europe.

Successful information tour at the locations

Experience technology, understand processes, engage in conversation: Deutsche Energy Terminal (DET) is also available to talk to citizens in person. With various dialogue opportunities, the federally owned company was on site at its locations in 2024 and 2025 and had sent out extensive invitations to visit in advance. DET employees answered questions, provided insights into their work, and shared information about the operation of the federal government-owned floating LNG terminals.

What is liquefied natural gas (LNG)? What role do LNG terminals play in Germany's energy supply? How do they contribute to a reliable and stable supply for businesses and households? And how does a floating terminal actually work in detail? Answers to these and many other questions were provided directly at the information stand.

Hands-on technology

Visitors were greeted by a true-to-scale 3D model of a floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) – a regasification ship that forms the heart of both floating LNG terminals. The model showed key technical components and clearly explained processes. An interactive touchscreen provided additional background information at the touch of a button. In addition, short films impressively conveyed the LNG terminal experience and gave impressions of the work on board.

Opportunity for exchange

The focus was on direct dialogue and personal conversations. “In 2024, we set up our information booth in the marketplaces of our locations. The great interest and positive feedback encouraged us to continue this direct exchange in 2025: open, transparent, and up close,” said Dirk P. Lindgens, Head of Communications at DET. “That's why we were there again this year – with a new information stand, the latest information, and lots of anticipation for exciting encounters. We will be there again in 2026 to talk to people.”

DET draws a positive conclusion and thanks all residents, representatives of regional politics, and economic and environmental associations who sought dialogue at the information box.
