LNG terminals are floating industrial facilities where noise can be generated in various parts of the operation. Our aim is to prevent the generation and spread of noise as far as possible and minimise its impact on the surrounding environment. There are various ways of achieving this. Among other measures, noise silencers have been retrofitted to the exhaust stacks of the Höegh Gannet in Brunsbüttel. With this modification to a floating LNG terminal, DET is leading the way worldwide.

The eight silencers absorb and dampen noise generated by the generators and exhaust stacks before it reaches the surrounding environment. Special porous acoustic materials are used to convert sound energy into heat. In addition, acoustic barriers, resonance chambers and reflective surfaces inside the silencers cause the sound waves to be repeatedly reflected and scattered. This reduces their energy and, consequently, the overall noise level.
