LNG is now an established part of Germany’s natural gas supply. As of 27 August 2026, 88.5% of the LNG imported through DET’s terminals in 2026 to date originated in the United States. Other key countries of origin included Morocco, Equatorial Guinea and Cameroon.

In the early hours of 2 July 2026, the Tessala also became the first vessel carrying Algerian LNG to berth at a DET terminal. The LNG carrier, sailing under the Algerian flag, was 291 metres long and 46 metres wide and carried around 110,000 cubic metres of liquefied natural gas (LNG) in its specialised tanks. The vessel was loaded between 25 and 26 June at the Mediterranean port of Arzew.

The arrival reflects a broader trend: during the first half of 2026, LNG from countries other than the United States accounted for around 10% of the volumes handled at DET’s three terminals in Wilhelmshaven and Brunsbüttel – up again compared with 2025. In previous years, countries of origin also included Norway, Angola and Mauritania.
